Workshop on Power Electronics & IoT Based Robotics

IEEE RUET Student Branch has successfully organized the workshop on "Power Electronics and IoT Based Robotics" on 8th and 9th November, 2018 at ECE Seminar Room, ECE Building, RUET. The total number of participants was 85 including both IEEE members and non-members. The workshop was divided into two sessions. The first session was on "IOT based Robotics" which was held on 8th November, 2018. It started at 3 pm. The speaker Abul Al Arabi led the session with his excellent skills and shared his great experiences related to IoT. After delivering some basic knowledge over Arduino, python operations, Wi-Fi devices the speaker also showed an architectural assimilation of IoT. The participants were very charmed by the great presentation of the speaker. The session was concluded by presenting crest to the speaker and a photo session segment. After the session, there was some arrangement of refreshments for the participants.

The second session was on "Power Electronics" which was held on 9th November, 2018 at ECE Seminar room. The speaker Shuvangkar Chandra Das delivered a wonderful presentation on the importance of power electronics and it's revolution. He also presented basics of Inverter, design of a Pure Sine Wave inverter, inverter design topology, its challenges, hardware implementation, programs etc. The presentation was very helpful.

After the session, our honorable guests Shams Shad Islam Khan (Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section SAC), A R M Abdullah Rocky (Chair, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh) and Dr. Mohammad Moshiul Hoque(Conference Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section) delivered their speeches regarding the activities and the role of IEEE in engineers life. Shams Shad Islam Khan presented a slide to familiarize the students with IEEE activities and he also presented the list of achievements of Bangladesh Section. There was a small quiz segment to keep the session lively. Winners were gifted with t-shirts, keyrings, and caps. Honorable Tasnim Binte Shawkat mam( Lecturer, Dept. of ECE, RUET) presented crests to the speaker and honorable guests. She concluded the event with her speech urging the guests to cooperate with our branch in arranging bigger events.

Celebration of IEEE Day 2018

The IEEE Day 2018 was celebrated by IEEE RUET Student Branch on October 9, 2018, with day-long activities. A total number of 80 members joined this program. The celebration started at 1:30 pm with a rally from the premises of the EEE building. This phase ended with a photo session segment. A human IEEE chain was a noteworthy part of this segment. The 2nd phase of the program was held at the ECE Seminar room on ECE building, RUET. Our honorable counselor Dr. Md. Samiul Habib (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, RUET) and Tasnim Binte Shawkat madam (Lecturer, Dept. of ECE, RUET) were present there. The second phase of the program started at 4:30 pm by cutting the IEEE Day Cake with all the guests and all the members. After that, our honorable guests gave some valuable speech regarding the IEEE Day and the importance of IEEE in the Career of an Engineering student. Next, the program consisted of a Rubik's cube solving competition conducted by Mim Naz Rahman, Section Ambassador of IEEE Day 2018, and IEEE Bangladesh Section. This competition was held in three segments. Samiul Islam from Dept. of ECE, RUET secured the first position with a stunning average of only 26.45 seconds. The second position was obtained by Md. Imam Hossain from Dept. of EEE RUET with an average time of 65.67 seconds.

Then the interactive session (dividing the participants into groups) was held which was conducted by Nowshin Jahan Risha, Treasurer of IEEE RUET Student Branch. This session was comprised of an interesting segment with balloons and a brainstorming segment with questions. Group C was declared the winner of this session. At the last portion of the event, Md. Omar Faruk Mazumder, Former Secretary of IEEE RUET Student Branch and Milton Kumar Kundu, Former Chair of IEEE RUET Student Branch gave away the prizes among the winners.

9th Anniversary of IEEE RUET SB

IEEE RUET Student Branch celebrated its ninth anniversary on September 18, 2018, at the RUET cafeteria. Prof. Dr. S.M. Abdur Razzak Sir, the advisor of IEEE RUET Student Branch, dean, faculty of ECE, RUET was present there as an honorable guest. He inaugurated the ceremony by cutting the cake. After this ceremony, another part of the celebration, an interactive session had started.

There was a quiz contest that was mainly based on the journey of the IEEE RUET Student Branch. Then, the winning team was presented attractive prizes by Milton Kumar Kundu, former chair, IEEE RUET Student Branch. Three sessions were conducted after the interactive session. Injamam Ul Haque, Chair, IEEE RUET Student Branch took the session on IEEE Xtreme, Fazley Rabbi, Chair, IEEE RUET IAS Student Branch Chapter took the session on IEEEMadC and Mim Naz Rahman, Secretary, IEEE RUET Student Branch took the session on IEEE Day 2018. About 40 members participated in this program. With a photo session segment, the ceremony came to an end.

The Ultimate Innovator Hunt

IEEE RUET Student Branch has hosted the contest "The Ultimate Innovator Hunt" on 13th July 2018 with 60 participants at the ECE seminar room, RUET. The program started at around 10 am. Prof. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Mondal sir, Prof. Dr. Ajay Krishno Sarkar sir, and Ms. Tasnim Binte Shawkat madam were the honorable judges of this contest. They examined the projects, talked with the participants and imparted further suggestions for the better modifications of their projects. After a lunch break, Prof. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Mondal sir took a session (technical talk) on "FPGA Applications in Education". Meanwhile Prof. Ramalatha Marimuthu, SS12 chair delivered her valuable speech for the contestants online. After the final speech of the judges, Prof. Dr. Ajay Krishno Sarkar sir presented both Tasnim Binte Shawkat madam and Prof. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Mondal sir token of appreciation. The name of the four selected teams was declared after this segment who are going to take part in the SS12 Innovation challenge and Maker Fair 2018's "Maker Fair" track which was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in September 2018. The selected teams were as follows: Champion: Team X (RUET) First runner-up: Team Drogon (RUET) Second runner-up: Team Guard (RUET) Third runner-up: Team Detector (RUET) The champion and first runner-up team were given 15k and 5k BDT respectively for further encouragement. With a photo session segment, the program ended at around 3:30 pm.

Thesis Paper Writing & Publication Using KSI Method

EEE RUET Student Branch organized a free seminar on "Thesis Paper Writing Publication Using KSI Method " with around 110 participants on March 25, 2018, at ECE Seminar room, RUET.
The seminar was conducted by Md. Kamal Uddin, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer, Department of Land Management, Faculty of Agriculture University Putra Malaysia. At first, he described the importance and benefits of KSI (Keyword Sequence Importance) in writing a thesis paper. The participants learned the present and future activities of the thesis, citation collection from a journal, how to paraphrase citations properly, result in writing, and review paper and so on. The seminar was informative and helpful for participants. By the end of the seminar, an interactive session was arranged in which some questions were asked by the speaker and those who could give the correct answers were provided certificates from the honorable speaker. After this session, the seminar came to an end.
"Thesis and Publication" are two topmost matters of concern for the final year students. So it's a must for all of us to be an expert in this field to compete for the world. The goal of our seminar is to enlighten everyone with the knowledge of saving time, increasing the quality of thesis writing, fast publishing, review paper, and research finding and reducing mental stress.

Since writing a quality thesis is surely a problematic process. So it's the crucial part specifically needed to be constructed effectively to ensure the students produce high impact papers. KSI (Keywords, Sequence, Importance) technique is proved to be an effective method to enable the students to graduate on time and publish papers in the reputable journal. And this technique is going to be the center topic of our seminar.

Graphic Design Bootcamp & Directions for Freelancing

IEEE RUET WIE Student Branch Affinity Group organized a daylong workshop entitled "Graphic Design Bootcamp & Directions for Pursuing Freelancing" with around 60 Participants on February 15, 2018, at ETE seminar room, RUET. The workshop was conducted by Shahida Afrin, Lead of Business Solution Team, Mogo Business Solution who obtained her BSC degree from RUET. She referred to "Graphic Design" as one of the top 25 jobs that young people want to have. Graphic design has variety of scopes including logo, t-shirt design, photo manipulation, calligraphy, typography etc.

She insisted that the user interface is the most important thing in the case of graphic design. The participants were taught the basic use of tools of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. For having a career in freelancing, the speaker suggested creating a portfolio at behance.com and mentioned some other sites like Upwork, Toptal, Elance, Freelancer, Craigslist, etc.

A competitive session was conducted by forming groups among the participants which included finding real-life problems, selecting one of those, finding the solutions for the selected problem, visualizing the problem in a poster and presenting it with a speech step by step. "Team Hexagonal" was the winner of this session. At last Zawata Afnan, the chair of the IEEE RUET WIE Student Branch Affinity group presented a crest to our trainer as a small token of appreciation. With a photo session segment, the program came to end.

Seminar on IEEE Membership Development

IEEE RUET Student Branch has successfully organized the Seminar on IEEE Membership Development on 8th February 2018 at ECE Seminar Room, RUET.

Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Md Zakaria Haider, Secretary, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Md Romael Haque, Treasurer, IEEE Bangladesh Section were present as the honorable speakers of the event. The seminar started at 2:30 PM. Though it was the middle of the day and scorching sun was on top of the head to remind the last few days of winter, around 70 students including both IEEE members and non-members were present. Honorable Chair of the IEEE Bangladesh Section, Dr. Celia Shahnaz started her session by sharing her achievements and all the odds she faced along with other trailblazers in bringing the section in such a magnificent position. She put lights on the different tracks the section has worked on in the last few years for the professional and ethical development of the members. Then, in his session, MD. Romael Haque who is the Treasurer of the IEEE Bangladesh Section showed the membership growth of the section which is the highest in the entire world. He further showed all the awards the section or the maestros of the section have achieved.

Later, Mohammad Zakaria Haider who is the Secretary of the IEEE Bangladesh Section, in his session discussed how to develop a humanitarian project as well as how IEEE Bangladesh Section has patronized different humanitarian activities which resulted to be the best section in humanitarian activities worldwide. In the meanwhile, our beloved sir Prof. Dr. Ajay Krishna Sarkar, Head, Dept. of EEE, RUET arrived at the seminar. End of the seminar, Dr. Ajay Krishna Sarkar presented gifts to our honorable speakers as a sign of gratitude. The seminar was a highly effective one as the participants came to learn a variety of aspects of IEEE as well as the glorious journey of the IEEE Bangladesh Section.

ICEEE 2017: The fourth international conference of RUET

Workshop on HVDC Power Plant

IEEE RUET Student Branch is glad to announce that the workshop on "HVDC POWER PLANT" was organized successfully on 2nd January 2018.

Around 50 participants were present there. A heartiest thanks to all the participants for joining the program. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Goffar Khan, professor, Dept. of EEE, RUET. Along with the advantages of high voltage DC transmission over AC transmission, he showed the potentiality of HVDC. He also presented the challenges that the researchers of this field are facing to make HVDC favorable and efficient enough for Large-scale use. By giving a view of the worldwide working possibility of HVDC, he encouraged the participants to choose this as their research topic and work in this trending sector. After this beneficial presentation our beloved Prof. Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam, professor, Dept. of EEE, RUET rendered a short finishing speech and presented Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Goffar Khan with a gift as a small token of appreciation. With this, the program came to an end.
