Linux: Operating System
Minhaz Hossen, General Member
Linux is one of the most widely supported operating systems of all time. It's an open-source and community-developed operating system. It has an enormous development community. The wide range of distribution makes it possible for a Linux version to be available for almost any task. It can even run in mobile devices with OS versions like Android.

There's a foundation called free software foundation who is originated the GNU GPL general public license. Free software foundation has a copyleft that says anything taken from free and modified must, in turn, be distributed. Linux adopted at the copyleft of this foundation. That's why Linux is distributed for free. if someone modified Linux and make a new version of that also must be distributed for free. Those new versions of Linux is called distributions. Each Linux version is designed for specific target systems, search s desktops, mobile devices or embedded devices. Though GNU GPL makes Linux component-free for all, it does not prohibit creators to hold copyrights on the various components. But it is common for some commercial distributions to charge for custom development services.

If we wanted to talk about how Linux works we need to know what defers Linux from other operating systems. The main difference is in its kernel. Karnal is the primary resource for every operating system which is located in the central portion of the operating system and controls the operating system security, hardware, interface. Another operating system operates in their specific kernel but Linux operates in Linux kernel which is very flexible. The kernel allows you to edit and modify your operating system to suit your individual needs. For this many companies and organizations design their operating system for their own needs and requirements.

One of the main purposes of Linux is as a server platform because it can build the foundation for which an operating system can be built and can replace Microsoft Windows operating system. Because of its capability to act as a platform, it can also be used in microchip and other appliances.

Linux is not a single program that writes the Microsoft Windows operating system. It works with other GNU programs. Therefore a Linux is known as a 'distribution'. As Linux is not a single program, it is available for your hard disc or they can be run from a compact disc. Because you don't need to install Linux on your hard disk to run the Linux operating system. Its versatility gives you the freedom to run it from a CD. The operating system will boot from your CD just like it would from your hard disc. It's that simple.

The Linux market is growing rapidly. It's because it's security, reliability, low cost and freedom from vendor lock-in. According to web server statistics, as of November 2018, the estimated market share of Linux on the desktop computer is around 2.1% while Microsoft has a market share of around 78%. As a web server, the stats are another way around. W3Cook publishes stats that use the 1 million Alexa domains, which as of May 2015 estimate that 96.5% of web servers run Linux, 1.73 percent run Windows and 1.72 percent run FreeBSD.
We all know Android. Android is also based on the Linux kernel which has become the dominant operating system of smartphones. Linux is also used in film production, the government uses, etc. The 'Titanic' film was produced on Linux servers. Since then all major studios including Dreamworks animation, Pixar, Weta Digital and Industrial light & magic have migrated to Linux.
